Low Poly Game Assests

When one looks at low poly game assets, they see what ultimately is only a few polygons painted to look like millions. It is like a foul trick of the eyes but this is the nature of the game.

When looking at a desk in detail, you start to notice the sheer amount of clutter that makes a desk look lived in/around/on. These small, seemingly non needed details however are key in the illusion. Good textures and some normal mapping (where supported) can really bring these to life.

So below is a link to my low poly desk asset. While this is nowhere as lived in as it will be, it is a basic start in need of refinement. This is the first asset for the show on the 24th July in Canterbury so please come down and see the final scene.

I'll also be heading to GamesCom this August (hopefully) and I'm much looking forward to that.

A happy Birthday

22 now, and I feel old compared to my college mates. Still my life is young and im ready for my career to take off.

This marks the final week for submissions and I only have 3D animation and Video Production to complete. I am feeling rather good about my chances, and it also marks the last 2 weeks of college. From the 9th of July I will be looking for work, full time, part time, freelance and hope to really push some quality into my portfolio in preparation for July 24th where I am now confirmed to be displaying with the FreeFall Entertainment guys.

I will be sad to see the end of college but like all cycles of life, with the closing of 1 door, many others open.

Although a great help for half the year, the other half is spent waiting for them to pay, or indeed chasing them up on payments long forgotten.

End of Year Show.

So today was the private showing for our End of Year Show, where the college supposedly invites industry professionals down to view our final projects. With exception to the odd parent and the Mayor of Canterbury the media hall was empty.

I say empty, the awesome guys from Free Fall Entertainment were there, showcasing their project that they have created as a prequel to their upcoming arcade title.

They also agreed that I could display at their upcoming expo on July 24th. So make sure your in Canterbury for that day!

Please check them out here : Free Fall Entertainment

Sub D Modelling

Having spent last night watching tutorials on subD modelling, I can say that the basics are simple and quick to learn. It's more the implementation of modelling techniques into good polyflow design.

Hopefully I can create both a stunning subD model with mechanical animation for my 3D animation task. At least this is what Paul Roberts hopes I will manage.

So after attaching my work to the board, what left to do but the boring finish to the college year. It was nice to see a few people making an effort to complete work, coming in on a day off like me.

Time to get cracking on a 3D animation. I have no ideas currently but regardless I'll brainstorm out some ideas tonight and get them into 3DS Max tomorrow.

FlashStorm Announced and End of Year Show

Today I announce my new project, codenamed Flashstorm. This is a continuation of a previous project but to a new degree. Flashstorm will not be a quick or easy project, nor will it be forgiving if it is not worked on. With this said, I should also notify you all that I intend Flashstorm to take atleast until Christmas, due to the size and intensity required.

College end of year show starts tomorrow. To say I am fully prepared is an understatement, the college even less so. My picture artworks will be ready for boarding today so hopefully all should be well.
